My research interests and work revolve around two main areas: Social Design, whereby using design thinking as a methodology, designers are able to engage and contribute to the needs of a society on a more meaningful level. Emphasis is placed on the role of the designer in the community – ‘Designer as citizen’ – creating change by using design to raise awareness, and to stimulate thought which, ultimately, leads to social behavioural change.

The second interest is in all aspects of Design Education, especially curriculum development and sustainable design education, as well as international perspectives on design education.
